What I've become more aware after so many stories like this (plus other knowledge about JP), is that the JP mindset is more hive like (then Western). More hivelike, vastly more hierarchical, vastly more "get put into a lane and stay in that lane once you fall into it".

Hence in this case, MC got locked into "Hentai Pervert" lane, while everyone else was already organized into "Romcom story arrangement" -- so they had their romcom lanes, and they stayed in them. Which seems absurd from Western perspective.

It was 2 of the most popular people in school publicly calling out some random no name dude.

People are stupid and act like sheep in high school and they especially love gossip. It doesn't matter if the story was true or not. The fact that everyone was talking about it was proof enough for everyone. I mean there is a reason why Japanese people are know as robots and NPC's around the world.

MC simply didn't stand a chance in his first life.

I really liked the manga so, when I saw it was an adaptation I search it up and started reading. And the novel was peak and had a crazy plot twist I’m ready for to see adapted.

like at least in shield hero the cartoonishly awful princess has a visible motive for stabbing him in the back so she can shack up with somebody "better." Glasses girl already got everything she wanted! What was the point of this besides going through the motions of "look how betrayed the hero was, oh how he suffered, isn't he sympathetic now?"

I was interested to the manga from the first chapter, read the first volume of the novel. At first i was still skeptical, but it keeps getting interesting
So the main focus wasn't romance, it was how our MC trying his best to not getting involved with the "MC wannabe"

He is quite a "mastermind", because he love anime and manga since he was a child so he thinks this world revolved around him since he is the "MC".
Our MC Kazu and the "Ice Princess" Mikoto actually met once when they were child, and that is how she fall in love with him
Since the "MC wannabe" know that Mikoto loves MC and he recognize our MC Kazu so Amada(MC wannabe) make himself like a friend with our MC while making plans to "push him away from his story" even involving the losing heroines

She actually likes the MC as they met when they were young but is scared of the perpetrator that causes his life to be ruined. If you care for people getting what they deserve for their crimes you should drop this now tbh. None of them get punished for what they attempt to do for very long. I can live past that but I know it'll turn some people off.

I suppose I can get buy some digital versions of the JP LN and try my luck. I’d rather buy the books in Japanese than support the dodgy practice previously mentioned.

He does eventually get punished by being betrayed by one of this harem and getting his idiot plan exposed to everyone in the school.

It just happens later in the story since the beginning is about the MC and FMC getting together.

MC knows that he is not capable of directly opposing Satan because of his past life experience. So instead of getting back at everyone that betrayed him, he just derails everyone's plans by simply not playing the game.

I try to help people out while I'm here but it's always better when someone that has actually read the LN answers people's questions. I'm just surprised how much attention this is getting from only the first chapter.
