I think this story would be more tense if the guy had something to lose. Like if he was already in a relationship or has legitimate concerns it'll end up like obsession with a dead pet as foreshadowing. But like, this doesn't seem that bad at all. Also it is a little weird to not threaten his friend's sister or at least not mention her cuz she is publically making bento for him. I dunno. This just seems flirty and coy rather than stalkery.

Yandere mangas require 2 things in order to function
1. Some nonsensical reason for the Yandere to not be upfront with their feelings, so they have a "reason" to be crazy. "Oh I'm just not ready to reveal myself"...fucking what?
2. Absolutely beta MC, sometimes they also have to be breathtakingly stupid.

The (potentially) most worrying thing is the number of readers who will self-insert as the MC in stories like this, while accounting for your second point.

And this has all the trappings that our super dumb/bland MC is going to end up a harem protagonist on top of this yandere stalker business (we fleshed out the Kouhai a bit this chapter, and there are three girls introduced, which is a very clichéd number within that genre). So the "wish fulfillment" angle is only building momentum with that flag being raised.

Unless the author actually rug-pulls everyone. I am optimistic, but won't be holding my breath.
