I think the problem is the 2 years. After being in a coma for so long, it can take a while to bring the body back up to speed because of the atrophy that occurs. It doesn't help that she rings him for all he's got on a regular basis, meaning his body spends more time recovering from that than anything else. Top it all off with the fact that he's been more focused on getting Noah prepared for her academics than the training he'd need, and it actually makes sense that he's still likely not in top form, though I imagine that was more her taunting him than the truth, kind of a "Don't worry, you can just say you weren't in top form when you lose."

We know they DO get most of the basic dragon abilities as they grow up, including being able to transform to full dragons. No real 'downsides' from being half-human mentioned as far as I recall, besides inheriting some of Leon's characteristics.

All told, all of their children are pint-sized powerhouses, and it's not just because Leon trains them well.
