The second Loki gets in range, the battle is over.

This is different from all the other fights in the sense that it isn't a brawl. It was a high-risk high-reward gambit featuring whether Loki would reach Simo and win, or die trying. What was really stupid is why Loki chose this arena.

Simo also got half of his jaw blown out by a bullet in the war.
Loki could have surprised him; maybe one of Loki's attacks pierces Simo's spleen or one of his kidneys, so Simo can't use low-danger attacks anymore.
Maybe Simo is just built different, and he can vanish in the snow in plain sight with some bullshit distraction.
You know, shit could have been a little more interesting.
Golden Kamuy features much more intense sniper battles, and in that manga, no one is a God or possesses any superpowers.

That's all? That's the fight?

What a boring ending. It might have been interesting if we got Simo's POV and saw him unravel Loki's plot one layer at a time under pressure of losing organs and being one mistake away from death. Instead, we just had Loki making an elaborate plan for no return whatsoever. Simo just always knows where he is. Because reason.
It's even more frustrating since Jack being present in the chapter is a reminder that the author can write a good mind game when he wants.

When i knew that from Loki's past he did something wrong to brunhilde's husband, that's when I stop pitying The loser of the match, He deserved to die anyway but, I wanted him to get more torture before death.

It just... wasn't that interesting. Simo Hayha is a sadboy who doesn't like killing, then kills anyways. He had no personality, and next to no variety of techniques.

I'd like to hold out hope the reason this one was so short and disappointing is because Loki's real trick was faking his death to come back for the meta-story rather than the tournament, but frankly, I'm unconvinced.

It's also a bullshit ending.
That "feels to take a life" explanation doesn't work because they're copies. And remember, the Loki copy could give off a soul painting, meaning it would feel like taking a life, a sign it would trick Simo. He didn't take his life so he couldn't have been able to tell. Inevitable annoying ending for Loki.

It needed to be referenced earlier, like when Simo made the first headahot he should have said something like "I don't feel like I've taken his life yet...", or something.

Yeah but that still wouldn't work for the ending where it's a double fake out, he'd still be attacking the fake Loki before it was too late.

Well, the notion of "I never mistake the pain of taking a life" is pretty cool, but overall this still felt like kind of an underwhelming end to the fight. Then again, there's only so much you can do with a duel against a sniper, a type of combatant naturally static and making few attacks.

But considering from what I know of Simo as a person this kinda works for me he once said "I only did my duty, and what I was told to do as well as I could" doesn't enjoy it or like fighting or anything he's simply doing his duty the best he can- and as calmly and efficiently as possible he is a sniper after all so the fight being quick and efficient especially against someone like Loki feels right to me

Exactly how it should have ended. Loki has been mocking everyone and I was expecting that he would destroy, but in the end he was powerless without his equipment.
