If I could only reach you
If I could make you smile
If I could only reach you
That would really be a breakthrough, oh yeah
Break through these barriers of pain
Break through to the sunshine from the rain
Make my feelings known towards you
Turn my heart inside and out for you now
Somehow I have to make this final breakthrough
Now, oh yeah

Did I miss the part where Pepe could turn her bottom half into rockets and fly through the sky before, or...?

She looks like a Genie.

How *dare* you say no Yuri. Get that shit outta here man it's a cast of primarily cute girls with one "trap" so far.

As that one weeb once said "if they're not doing gay things to each other, what are they good for?!"

I'm still fine with some hetero ships but you know Shy gotta be a Yuri harem protag. It's only a matter of time before she inadvertently seduces a villainess.

I'm in the firm "I don't like yuri" camp, but I will concede that the best yuri is when one of the girl (or more) is actually a boy.

Besides, one of the girls already has a love interest and I feel shoehorning romance when I think having most of the characters just being friends fitting better with the themes presented so far would be better anyways-as I always kinda found her relationships based on a more surrogate sister attachment than a romantic one.

But we're all in agreement Pepe shitposts of 4chan.

I'm not going to say I'd drop the series if there was some hetero shipping (Ai and Tokimaru are obviously a thing and it feels like there will probably be some Spirits/Stardust stuff) but in Teru's case at least almost all of her interactions with Iko are played up in way that's obviously drawing from romantic cliches like Iko getting the pained "do your best" that's stock for love interests. Or the entire scene with Teru promising not to make Iko cry again after her sparring with Stardust. Out of the female characters that basically just leaves Pilse and she'll likely be the Rei to Teru's Usagi: abrasive tsundere friend who nonetheless will have the MC's back probably more than anyone.

So really the only one where I really pick up any yuri ship vibes from is Teru/Iko and the baity overtones are definitely intended on the author's part though in reality the series is still technically a battle shounen so there probably won't actually ever be any romantic development, straight or gay, beyond teasing and baiting until near the end of the series.

I'm also not really understanding why the hell people here and on 4chan have been getting so butt blasted about any potential of a series having yuri elements. It's a fairly recent hatred too. I get that yuri crusaders can be annoying (same as any overly invested shipper) but jeez.

I think it's that people don't like series that aren't about yuri to suddenly become yuri, because of a tendency for it to be poorly implemented or for it to feel jarring and be kinda "not what I signed up for" type shtick. In regards to the former, some authors tend to include straw man-hating psycho lesbians into there works that don't represent how actual lesbians are, which only exist for fanservice or because of their fetishes. Alternatively, Western works has the issue of shoehorning characters is for representation that leads to tokenism or poorly written characters overall rather than something that feels like it's a natural extension of their backstory, and so people see these poor examples and get kinda upset about the prospect of tokenism ruining an otherwise good story. Plus yuri shippers have a habit of being very...aggressive, and they tend to kinda want everything to be yuri, which isn't just how people are. Personally, I think yuri's just overdone in general and I think that it's not as interesting as a conflict as two dudes liking one another because the latter's far more prosecuted and faces a lot more discrimination, which could lead to a lot of interesting relationships and dynamics between people, but that's the writer in me talking.

In regards to this manga specifically, I don't see Iko/Teru's relationship as one of romance but one of close friendship. It seems that people like to see romantic tropes and assume that's the point of their relationship or that they've read so much romance they tend to see all relationships through that lens. I don't think that's the case here. Not all love is romantic love, and I got the impression it was more of a sisterly kind of love between them, as they both want to protect and care for one another. Kinda like Gilgamesh and Incadu. It's more of the "heterosexual life partners" trope than anything else, but you're welcome to your point of view as well @Suben

Implying Yaoi-shippers are better. And i don't really know where you have seen such aggresive behavior but most yuri fans i know aren't that aggresive about ships (Beside Love Live but that's another problems).

Edit : Nevermind, see a comment of you on the Gyaru Zombie one. Don't really think it's worth the time talking with you. Blocking will be easier.

I'm a massive yurifag but lesbi honest, the most we can hope for in a battle shounen is subtext. I really don't see anyone in the comments being a raging yurifag and demanding the men/boys to drop dead or accusing het shippers of anything so I don't see a point in bringing it up.

I mean i'm not an idiot. If i don't see any Shoujo/Yuri tag, i won't hope for a yuri ship to sail and i won't be mad if they're het ships. I mean yeah, the relation between Shy/Iko can be seen as subtext but honestly i don't see it going further than friendship.

I am pretty sure Iko and Shy relationship is a special one,
Considering author background and probably editor note we may only get as much as friendship and subtext.

I don't expect any romance route at all especially on a shounen battle.

Though bringing a male with romance out of nowhere is indeed seems like a bad writing. And so far thankfully there's none.

More male characters is fine, but do not expect fans to be happy when there's romance hinted on the main characters. Especially after all those early chapter lol.

Here's hoping just maybe, Iko become a hero as well somehow in future.
Also I want to see that one male hero in action I forgot his name.

Being a battle Shonen I honestly don't expect much for romance out of the series. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want the yuri, though whether there is any or not I still enjoy the series for what it is.

i really dont care if iko/teru becomes a thing (honestly while i think it would be real nice i feel like there wont be a solid romance between teru and anyone) but im just waiting for more characters to appear before starting to properly ship anyone here

@DARLINGBEAR Kinda what I'd want aside from memeing about Meng Long/anyone. Though, I would say that I think Teru entering a romance at this point conflicts a bit with the idea presented early on that helping people allows them to open their hearts and spread good from that point onwards, as well as Teru's arc about her confidence growing because of her friends and allies around her. I think holding off with a proper romantic relationship would probably be best, jokes aside.

@Lilliwyt That seems like a petty reason to block someone. (I only came back to this thread because I was re-reading the Iko/Teru chapters to see if I was misinterpreting anything, but I pretty much arrived at the conclusion that their relationship is more one of sisterly bonds and mutual respect then romance specifically. Again, not all love is romantic and I'd call it more fraternal in their case, and, when understanding Teru's arc is about learning how to rely on other people and learn how to help others, it makes sense why she would be relieved to have someone to rely on in chapter 30 when Iko comes to visit her house.)

Personally, I don't care if other people like yuri/yaoi, (Though I find yuri shippers more pervasive and most of the people who ship yaoi do it as a joke) I just feel that it can be a bit out of place in certain manga. (The zombie gyaru one for instance was better as a story about a couple of friends without the romantic subtext because I feel that adding a romantic element when she's on the verge of snapping makes it feel like something out of Fraken Fran, and not so much fluffy as slightly terrifying which conflicts with the tone.)

Blocking people of having a different opinion than you seems to be a bit shallow, and I can understand that you have strong feelings on this topic (it's literally in your bio) but seems to be a bit weak overall from my prospective.
