@Grishnag The author is very clearly leaning heavily into it with the way certain characters interact. Which doesn't mean it could be anything other than baiting on their part but stuff like the Meng Long/Thumping or Teru/Ikko scenes, baiting or not, are about as unsubtle as having a brick tossed at your head.
That said whatever is and isn't just bait this chapter gives me the impression that Pilse might honestly have feelings for Shy or at least might genuinely be gay. Last chapter after she breaks the halo herself she's crying which is easy to take as anger at being controlled but the crying returns when Shy comes back and especially in the panel on page 17 where Shy's flying off. Shy looks embarassed by the whole thing (they both do) but Pilse looks genuinely hurt as well.
It starts to read to me more like someone humiliated at being forcibly outed which I don't think is particularly out of bounds for this series. I mean look at the Russia arc which dealt pretty unflinchingly with poverty, single parenthood and suicidal thoughts. But I guess we'll see when Pilse and Prayer have their inevitable talk and if that's not the case, well not like I'll get mad or anything since Pilse's still my favorite character.
