I know Isabelle is probably a sweet girl playing a role because she geniunely admires and is grateful to the MC for their actions... but I can't help but think that she won't at least having some sadistic pleasure playing the bully.

If you can't hide your beauty with a disguise, it means you're bad at disguising yourself.

That's a familiar number sequence.

Yeah, she absolutely doesn't look seventeen.

Rosalie is one of few who can actually handle Louis.

Ah, Isabelle. I thought it was a while longer before she appeared, but the manga does things faster.

The Kerbecks love the roleplaying. Just sayin'.

Isabelle's awesome.

I believe the black dragon Isabelle mentions is the same one Monica mentioned on page 3 to Louis.

I thought they were wyverns, not pterosaurs.

If anything, Isebelle's the one being too friendly, since Monica outranks her. Monica's a count, while Isabelle is the daughter of one. Although knowing what that county is like and how the count is treated by the nobility, I'd say it's closer to a margraviate.

Monica's the epitome of the meme, "I fear no man. But that thing, it scares me." Except that the thing that scares her is specifically man. She has a bit of a people problem.

Translation seems fine (from my non-Japanese perspective). She probably flubbed the line.

but I can't help but think that she won't at least having some sadistic pleasure playing the bully.
That just means her acting is that good. ;)

Isabelle having the time of her life playing a book-perfect villainess while also being a total cinnamon roll and fangirl to Monica is one of the small highlights of the story.
She's probably my favourite character. And I've read the entire story.

I was not expecting the Fibonacci sequence to show up in a nursery rhyme.
If there's one thing she loves, it's numbers.

MyAnimeList took all their character name spellings from the first volume of Yen Press’s release of the light novels, but their manga release (the third volume of which is out in just a week, with whole chapters and everything) has the same translator so is consistent. They used “Worgan” however, and also chose to use “pterodragon” for 翼竜 rather than pterosaur.

I love the wife character. Strong women to put dashing princes in their place always tickle my fancy :win:

Thanks for the info. I haven't read the official English translation of either the light novel or the manga, and I don't intend to read them for as long as I'm making a fan translation. I wouldn't want to be accused of plagiarism. Moving forward, I'll retain my own translation of any name that isn't on MyAnimeList as proof that my translations are my own.

And yeah, 翼竜 (yokuryuu) is the actual Japanese term for pterosaur, but I can also see why it was officially translated in the story as "pterodragon." 竜 (ryuu) means "dragon" after all and is more in keeping with a fantasy setting.

Am I missing something? Having a fake villainess to distract the Silent Witch while she is trying to guard the prince just seems like a very bad idea. Isn't she going to be distracted enough just having to talk to people and do normal school things?

Why does there have to be a villainess?

Not to rain anyone's parade but you know that the manga is officially licensed with 2 volumes out and third volume would be out next week, right?

It's also ripped and available on pirate sites if you don't want to pay. The translation is decent so not sure why you're translating it.

That’s the joke; it’s supposed to be a bizarre idea even in the story.

One person having a bizarre idea is fine, but why is everyone going along with it? So far this hasn't been a silly gag manga.

Is that why no one else has been translating this to English? Dang, call me clueless, but that does make perfect sense. Guess that means I should look for something else to translate.

If anyone knows of a good manga that isn't officially licensed and is sorely lacking English translations, I'm all ears.

I haven't really read beyond Episode 1, so I can only guess as to why Louis chose to have Isabelle pretend to bully Monica. Here's what I think was going on in Louis's head:

Louis thought that his barrier magic was enough to secretly protect Prince Felix, but when his protective brooch shattered the day after the second prince received it, he panicked. He was relieved to find the second prince unharmed, but since Felix denied anything serious happened, Louis wanted to know what's really going on while keeping Felix from danger.

Any attack powerful enough to destroy Louis's brooch requires even stronger protection from someone who can get close to Felix in real time, and the only ones strong enough for the job would be one of the Seven Sages. Among them, only Monica is young enough to attend Serendia Academy, and her silent spellcasting makes her perfect as a covert bodyguard. Unfortunately, Monica does not have the connections to enter such a prestigious academy, so Louis had to find a way to get her in. (Monica can't use her position as a magic count as that would make the whole point of covertly protecting Felix useless.)

Louis knows that Count Kerbeck's daughter is of the right age to enter Serendia Academy and has all the necessary connections to get in. The fact that the count is indebted to Monica for killing the black dragon makes him more amenable to going along with Louis's plans. By having Monica assigned to Isabelle as her young caretaker, Louis has the perfect cover for the Silent Witch. To avoid casting suspicion that Monica may be more than she seems, Louis arranged to have Isabelle treat her like a powerless servant. (Louis took inspiration for this setup from a romance novel written by Dustin Gunther.)

Louis probably didn't expect that Isabelle would throw herself into the role of a villainess so wholeheartedly though. He badly needs Isabelle's cooperation to pull off the whole plan, so he may not be inclined to ask her to temper her performance.

Oh thus is getting good
I just wish she would decline the assignment instead, since she clearly doesn't like it, is ill-fit, and has the power to do so. This just feels like she is forced into a job outside her work-contract that she hates, and just accepting that.

Isabelle isn't distracting Monica. Or at least not more than any actual human being. She's distracting everyone else from thinking too much about Monica. She's also someone supporting Monica, which she needs.

So you wish for a Silent Witch who sits in her home working on assignments with nothing in particular happening? That's kind of what would happen if she rejected his proposal. It's like if Luke decided to stay and work as a farmer.

However, she is actually fit for the job, but doesn't have the mental power to reject him, so you got two out of three wrong.

Yes! Exactly! No idea who luke is (lucky luke?), but I was hoping she would avoid any troublesome matters and keep on doing her duties she is fit for instead of unnecessarily stepping out of her comfort zone.

She is not fit at all, as she will clearly die from sheer shyness. And could have said no because that would be less horrible than being put in a school.

Mr. Skywalker.

Nah. She'll just throw up and/or faint. But she can do the job, and she can do it well.

And could have said no because that would be less horrible than being put in a school.
If things actually worked like that, far fewer people would be roped into things they don't want to do.

Anyway, I usually hope for what makes for a better story. Getting the protagonist out of her comfort zone does that almost every time.
