Wow I really thought the concept of maid cafes was firmly cemented in the wider Japanese consciousness at the time. If Akiba Maid War (fantastic show by the way) is to be believed maid cafes did exist prior to the turn of the twenty-first century. Even if they were mostly contained within Akihabara (their relative obscurity notwithstanding) it's surprising that not a single student in FemC's class had any idea of what she was talking about. She truly is ahead of the times.
