It is understandable from the character standpoint, and I agree.I would agree but then I remember that she can't exactly bleed normally... her paranoia is understandable
From a narrative standpoint though that paranoia has been well established since the start. But the author feels the need to repeat that point at length every time a new character is introduced. It almost looks like padding. The whole previous chapter basically is all about that with the bodyguard, which I know is important to establish their dynamic. Then we get that with him again at the start of this chapter (as a recap maybe), and then we get it again concerning the father. I'm not mentioning all the previous cases.
It gets to the point I want to say : "Yes! I get it! She's afraid to be found out! You don't have to waste so many pages to tell me that again!"
I guess I've become too genre savvy for this sort of comedy trope.
At the same time, maybe the Author just wants an excuse to draw funny expressions with her.
