A little note on translating the latter pages: I was debating whether to leave the original Japanese in - it’s jarring, but there’s a kind of poeticism to the い-adjectives that isn’t there in the English (and Azuma’s “sexy” gag doesn’t make as much sense otherwise).

I’ve not included the Japanese for the adjectives on earlier pages (when Azuma says everything’s in vain/futile - むなしい; when he says it’s lonely and painful - さみしい、つらい) because that would really seem odd, but just saying, there’s a bit of a theme that alas I don’t have the skill to convey 😂

The irony of struggling to translate a manga with a translation theme? Lol, but thanks for hard work. I appreciate it a lot! This manga definitely doesn't seem easy to translate (and maybe even judges you for how you do it lol).

It's chapters like this that put this manga above the average. It shows a lot of non-sexual intimacy, a great balance of seriousness with light-heartedness, and a delicate writing that is both respectful to the characters and their feelings, and just beautiful to read.

I usually prefer romance manga to be on the shorter side, but this one just keeps getting better. I really love it.

Haha, Kuji Papa's always in the back of my mind, no doubt turning in his grave as I break every one of his principles... 🥲

My excuse is that I assume there’s a fair few readers with some Japanese knowledge who’d be interested in the original phrasing (well, that and the fact this is a labour of love and I’m nowhere close to a professional translator!)

But it really is a great manga for all the reasons you’ve listed; I’m glad others are enjoying it too ❤️

guess who’s got tears streaming down their face right before clocking into work? 🙋

this chapter is definitely one of my favorites regardless of how painful it is. their (loving) banter is always such a delight to read. and azuma had to drop in that silly little joke to give us all a brief laugh, but man, i couldn’t hold it together when he thought of itoshii (beloved) as he hugged kuji... my heart.. i adore these two so much! i really don’t know how Hamada Kamome does it, but this manga just keeps getting better with every new chapter.

and thank you for all the hard work as always. love to see more of your personal translating notes at the end of the chapter ☺️

It’s one of my favourite chapters (in my favourite volume!) too 🥰
The way Azuma handles his grief feels so damn real, and Kuji’s calm response to it is so fitting. Then the understated way we see how dear to Azuma Kuji is, without Azuma actually needing to say an ‘I love you’… perfection 👌

Well, I'm trying to learn Japanese and I am interested in the original phrasing so there's at least one reader like that.

A masterpiece in every conceivable way. This chapter broke my heart—the moment where Azuma finally lets his guard down and allows himself to be vulnerable with Kuji reminds me of one of my favorite moments in this manga: chapter 5, when Azuma asks Kuji if he’s okay, and you can tell he hasn’t been asked that in a long time. He truthfully just responds, “Maybe I’m a little depressed.” These moments are so deeply human and show a truly brilliant understanding of emotion from a brilliant mangaka. I also can’t forget to mention how truly appreciative I am of the translator and their ability to convey this beautiful story and preserve its brilliance.
