It's definitely not about hair. Hair is actually almost legit and recognizable. But her face is awful, and in most cases "face" is what make a character. LN design were 1000x times better.

remember, in a LN a character is drawn a handful of times in a handful of images, while in a manga they have to be drawn many times in a row repeatedly. so changing the design a bit to fit with that is important. also remember the illustrator is a different person so of course their styles are different.
