@Stralvan From my perspective, he is based on a completely separate ideal. Instead of reducing something to death, he removes the concept of life/existence from it. Anything that runs its capability for life, his ability removes its capability. Remember, he was able to kill dolls that were controlled by magic. If it was simply the case he ensures something is dead, then a revive spell might be able to counter it. Based on the first time he used it, it can't.
So... I would be more terrified, because that means he could remove the concept of existence from the world they are standing on, or destroy the concept of magic itself. Imagine how fucked that sage bitch would get if he did that.
