Some adjustements to improve performance

I'm continue on daily basis to find the root cause of the decrease of performance and lag that occur for some people, myself included, i have in meantime 2 suggestions that can improve to reduce a bit this issue:

1) remove the random image widget if possible in the main page, is useless and it take eons to load the whole picture, it heavily decrease the loading of other thumbnails by a huge margin, better to replace it with something else.

2) remove the prefetching or the script that cause it, i noticed that even if i press ESC to stop loading a page or close a tab, it continue to load anyway in background all the images and so create a huge lag preventing me to do any other action until the load is complete, infact i'm forced to close and reopen the browser (and so eliminating all the scripts) to fix this issue.
Opening and closing the browser do the trick 90% of the times and a page that wont load the first time it load at maximim speed after a relaunch. So i think this is a javascript issue.

Thanks, hope it can help a bit to improve things and it can help admins too.

@Nick86 The random manga are not thumbnailed. We'll look into thumbnailing them all so that they load faster.

Do you live somewhere with poor internet? I don't notice any lag when opening an entire chapter up on my end. Either way, there's a new reader version coming out in the near future that will/should resolve this, fingers crossed!

@ixlone - Thanks forthe reply, is a very odd issue, as today i'm struggle to understand what really the cause is. Since closing and re-opening the browsing when the issue happen do the trick, not 100% of the times but a good 95%, can be an issue of the FIREFOX browser and javascript compatibility?

I don't know but this issue is not a 24/7 issue, occur sometimes and can be related to the website code when there are man y connetions at once?
Infact even if i close all loading pages (pressing ESC) the website continue to have opended connection in background and my router report 100% activity, this shadow loading prevent me to access other pages and load tons of data, and only when the loading is complete i can access to other pages. If i try to access the site while these connections are openened the pages and images result corrupted and trouncated and they wont load no matter what, so i'm forced to close and reopen the browser since my browser erase all the data, cookies and scripts at the closure.

My ADSL is a standard 20 mb download and 1 mb upload, is not an issue since as i said before, all other websites with tons of images load instant.

@dcpei - I know a lot of friends that have the same issue, you are using firefox? Also what DNS do you use? I'm using opennic project.

I use Firefox 60.0.1 myself with no issues.

A 2.5MB/s connection is pretty slow with large chapters. I'm assuming you are using the long-strip mode? Changing to the normal page by page mode might be better in the short term, until we roll out the new reader.

The normal mode only prefetches the next page iirc so it might be better for now.

@ixlone @dcpei - I see, i use opennic atm, anyway i notice a good improvement in these last hours, the server upgrade did the trick, atm the pages load instant, fonts and text side, the images however still take a bit more but is more fast compared to before even if the issue of the troucanted images and failing to load sometimes still occur ( see below). Refreshing more times do the trick.
Will try later in the day with the cloudflare dns too.

@ixlone - Forget to add the screen of the issue, some thumbnails still not load and are trouncated, expecially H titles, clicking in the title tab the cover is however displayed correctly but it take lot of time to load sometimes.

@Nick86 That's a known issue with the thumbnailer, under certain conditions and wrong file types it fails to create/copy a new thumbnail. It is affecting everyone, not just you.

It only affects them while they are on front page, all other pages will display the thumbnail correctly. So no amount of reloading or anything else you do on your end will make the thumbnail appear.

@ixlone - I see, happy to see that is a bug, the main issue is however the lag and loading on regular strips and images. Later on the day i'll change dns with yours (cludfare) and check if i can have improvements.

@Nick86 That's probably related to the image servers being at near max capacity due to site growth.

More image servers will be coming soon, now that the webserver upgrade is complete.

@ixlone - Thanks you, appreciated, text is loading instant, only images take eons to load or get trouncated. Looking for the new image servers, hope it solve this matter one time for all.
