So that happened. Losing both parents is not unreal, but this could be an utter cheapshot if the author doesn't give us a long while to see people process the fallout.

Realistically there's no point to the death, but story-wise there had better be a point that's more important than adding the dad to the cast rotation...
Honestly I'm hopeful the author is crafting something meaningful, but it could take another year of this now fairly long-running series before it pays off more than it brings down the mood.
