@The_Blues_13 Honestly same. I've drank bubble tea before it was popular. I love it, but I always get it without the pearls. I dislike its chewiness and bland taste. I just get bubble tea, but without the bubbles. Tea.

And seriously, I don't understand how it got popular. As I've said, I've drank it since I was young. It was so sudden, like "oh? they're popular now, huh." If I had to describe it, imagine you lived close to a shop which sold soya milk. You'd go there to buy a delicious drink once in a while, as a treat. Then suddenly, soya milk got popular around the world. Many shops selling soya milk started opening and they even had weird flavours like cheese soya milk. And people would buy soya milk everyday that it became a daily routine just for the sake of it?

Trends are scary

Oddly enough here in California, boba has just been growing, even though it's been a big deal here since ~2010. But then again, it fits the trendy cafe boom in the past couple of years so that might be the reason.

my hunch on why bubble tea/boba tea becoming so popular is people want to chew on something to pass the time, so something like gum, but tapioca won't turn hard like gum when in contact with liquids. so when drinking bubble tea you not only get to chew something but also get to enjoy good milk tea.

but honesty the real reason why bubble tea is popular in the states is because the shops make those sophisticated designs and people post them on instagram to show off
