Multiple Japanese persons have confirmed to me that the Japanese are, in fact, capable of identifying each other by scent and acted surprised at the idea that in most cultures, one would not be capable of that.
But then again, there are also cultures that lack inhærent directional terms like "left" and "right" and only use absolute ones like "north" and "south" and since they trained to instinctively know where the north and south are since childhood they can always instantly answer that — fascinating stuff.
@Nakanowatari
If I remember my developmental psychology correctly, there have been studies that show people are actually good at distinguishing other people by smell. If they're not used to recognizing it consciously, people still react to it unconsciously.
@Nakanowatari yes, I thought it was simiar nonsense to nosebleeds, but they all confirmed it.
Another truth in television here is that in Japan, it's apparently commonly accepted knowledge that males can continue to have sex after they ejaculate, not being able to do so any more is seen as a sign of getting older.
Their noses however don't start bleeding spontaneously whenever they come to be aroused.

What kind of bloody nose do they have? Meanwhile, I have this faulty nose that can't smell anything (both a blessing and a curse since I can't smell really smelly things or really delicious things). Share some smelling powers with me.
I mean, I was always to sense that people kinda had distinct scents about them. I didn't think it was an uncommon thing. It might be because I have overly active olfactory stuff because of Autism, though. @trapsarebetter@Nep
Like, you probably know your friends will smell like their houses and that they have a distinctive musk around them.I'm pretty sure most people can do this, but they just don't think about it too often because it's weird to talk about.
@trapsarebetter
Huh. Always thought that was just something weird that I could do since my sense of smell is a lot better than most. Just kept quiet about it for obvious reasons. Are you by any chance white? Different races definitely have their own smells but even regular people here can tell when a white dude seriously needs to wipe down and reapply their deodorant. Like we don't especially mind even if it's an indian or an arab but westerner BO really stands out.
@Tamerlane I don't think autism gives you superhuman noses since mine doesn't work. Im the type that can walk over a rotting corpse hidden under the drain (not knowing is there). Meanwhile, the rest of my class stay 20 ft away from said rotting corpse, avoiding the place entirely, and straight up ask me if I did not notice the smell.
