Oh... why do I have a feeling that this will be resolved a bit anti-climactically. His brother's last words were about being tired after all.

Enjoy all!

Bird daoist: A derogatory term, he's basically saying Qu Chen is bird-brained

Ling Xi: This is the wood element person that Qu Chen is having dreams/visions about. Not sure if this is a reveal or if it was mentioned before but it seems that the nascent core that A-Ting used to create her sword was Ling Xi's.

Jiu Chi Tan: Jiu is the same Jiu mentioned in the recent previous chapters, Chi could be a name but could also be referring to either a dragon whose horns hasn't grown yet, or a mountain demon that resembles a tiger. Tan is defined as chat or discuss, but also kinda sounds like lake, might be a play on words?

Nine heavens: The Jiu that is being used recently is also the character for Nine. So when he says nine heavens here, he might also be referring to the heaven/heavens of Jiu. Dunno yet so might find out in the future.

A-Ji: Baili Zhong is referring to his younger brother Baili Ji.

I think Qu Chen learnt Ling Xi's name while he was stuck in the dream breaking through on the bird faerie's island.

I know he is a villain, and you are totally valid for hating him. But in this setting, humans and cultivators are so different that they aint the same species anymore, even A Ting's shifu and fellow disciple said that. Do you count how many animals our girl had eaten? To Baili Zhong, it may have just been a case of "my brother got killed by PETA, for eating dogs".
(The comparison was made with dogs because normal humans are favored by cultivators compared to other species, as have been demonstrated in this whole Heavenly Messenger arc. Dogs, in the same manner, are favored by normal humans more than pigs and the like.)

Not every cultivator treat human like pet though. They maybe not consider human of the same race but still as similar ancestor or origin. Without human, cultivators would be reduced in number and before long cease to exist as cultivators rarely reproduce as it would be detrimental to their cultivation.

Ex: Homo Sapien vs Neanderthal.

And not every human consider dogs their family. The problem of extinction is even less concerning, cultivation was always about immortality and becoming god-like, if they want to pursue family relationship, they most likely wouldnt have treaded this path. And also, human aint the only cultivators, other species have cultivated long before human started and will continue to do so. Less competition is better for them even.
