I didn't mean to say that they should be working on other series - they can do whatever they want to. I just find it interesting that two good quality translation groups are working on the same series at the same time. Whereas other series that have multiple groups working on them usually have one "bad" translation that have quick and frequent uploads, and then the better translation that's slower to release and less frequent.
I'm repeating myself but it's just fascinating to me how some people can spend their time translating something that already has (in my opinion) a good translation. So I'm interested if there's some spicy beef going or something
There was one group translating. The other group started translating this same series halfway through, either someone thought the first group was slow, didn't agree with the TL choices for certain words, liked it enough to decide to do it themselves instead of waiting for someone else, or didn't really care about anything.
Since the group that came later is releasing first, a bunch of brats that get manga for free come here to complain about the double release instead of being glad there is more to read, a refresh before the next chapter almost a month away, and even a backup TL in case one is disbanded.
But yeah, is unusual to have more than one group active on the same series. The reason? The shit going on on the comments here.
Since no one really owns anything in Fan Translations, no one has more or less right to do it, but it's not really well accepted to start halfway on a series another group has not dropped. If I remember right, for the novels at NU there was a 3 month wait time before picking up something that was seemingly dropped. People didn't like when a group ignored this and started working without waiting or contacting the first group.
