Komi-san is, IIRC, weekly isn't it? I went and looked and the confession happened in chapter 300. based on the Japanese tank release dates on wikipedia that meant it was like 4 years and change between the start of the season and the confession. And in that time it made steady progress on the two of them with diversions like Manbagi and her feelings and getting shot down.

This series has been going on for 5 years now and honestly it feels like we're at exactly the same point as we were 2 years ago and they've just avoided having the whole story stall out by shifting from being about Gojou and Marin learning about cosplay stuff together as friends/not-yet-a-couple to focusing almost entirely on the mechanics and process of the cosplay itself.

I know you guys want the romance part of this series to be seen more, but do you guys think it's needed? For whom (i.e reader's satisfaction or character's "growth")?
Personally, I'm not bothered with the shift of focus of genre in this series. I've read Bakuman, and this arc reminded me of Mashiro's tenacity when I read Gojo. It makes me wanna root for him instead of despising him for being a "coward virgin".

The idea that relationship/sexual tension is necessary to sustain a romantic story and that the resolution of it and transition into an actual romance is the death knell for dramatic or enjoyable storytelling is such an overly tired trope that's not even true as long as you're a halfway competent author.

Keeping the relationship from developing for the sake of not wanting a resolution to that until some groundbreaking plot moment is essentially admitting that it's a romance-focused story. If it isn't that important, it shouldn't be treated as that important, but it is. That's where the argument that this isn't about the romance falls apart.

The author has been clearly building up to a confession, so now it's just a question of when does it happen.
The meaning behind a Christmas confession is something bestowed upon them by the society, and as shown in this chapter, Christmas itself doesn't really hold any meaning to either Gojou or their relationship.

On the other hand, comiket is like the center of otaku culture festivities, and Marin's passion for otaku culture and Gojou being drawn to such passion was what started their relationship in the first place. It also happens to be the event Gojou has been working so hard over the costume for, the moment of truth where Gojou can finally take his eyes off the pursuit for perfection and look at what he has accomplished instead, worn by Marin.
I wonder if this is what the author is going for and the confession is gonna happen during/after comiket. 🤔
