Someone mentioned that the author is building up to a confession. But why? If there is a confession in the next 5-10 chapters, I doubt it end well. Gojo has almost shown no romantic interest in Marin in the previous 20-30 chapters at least. If Marin were to confess for him now, Gojo would probably reject her on the grounds, that she's too good for him and why she would want to go out with a guy like him anyway etc. So I don't think a confession is a solution here and now.

The author could take an example from Nagatoro. Nanashi wrote senpai as one of the most pathetic mc and yet he went through such character development that he became chadpai. In contrast, Gojo's character has barely changed after 90+ chapters.

You’re not been paying attention. Gojo has romantic feelings for Marin but he’s thinking it’s a one sided crush because he is so insecure. If he had no romantic feelings for Marin he wouldn’t bend over backwards to achieve her every wish. This entire arc is about making a superb cosplay for a notorious Mangaka who is of the belief that no living soul can do his work justice. Also Gojo has like 3-5 days of working non stop to pull of this amazing feat because winter comiket always takes place the weekend prior to new year day and since manga chapters takes place on the 24 of December. This means at most he has 5 days to get everything ready.

The author is indeed building up to the point that Marin confesses her love for Gojo but like nearly everywhere but especially in Japan, women don’t tend to be the ones that confess but are those who are confused too.

Well, I never said that he wasn't romantically interested in her, I'm just saying that he hasn't shown any romantic interest in her in the previous 20 chapters at least. He's insecure, I understand that too, that's why I said if Marin confessed her love for him, he would probably reject her because of his insecurities.

There is nothing wrong being a perfectionist, but apart from that, his personality almost hasn't change. He's basically still the same as we saw him in the first chapter. And after 90+ chapters you would expect some sort of change in his personality.

He has shown change in his personality. Not a lot of change but change nevertheless.

For the love of god CONFESS ALREADY.

It's bad enough that the focus of the series has shifted from Marin and Gojou to the actual cosplay and construction and whatnot to the point that any sort of interpersonal bits with them are drip fed at an agonizing pace. But here we are at chapter 94 and it feels like they've been on the verge of some sort of relationship evolution for like a literal year or two and it just sits there idling and accomplishing nothing.

Because the stupidest part is that if the author really did fall down the cosplay rabbit hole far enough that she wanted to just switch to that being the focus of the manga instead of it as a delivery vehicle for the main characters' interactions, THEY CAN STILL DO THAT PART JUST AS EASILY WHILE BEING A COUPLE. And it would even open up new wrinkles and opportunities (like Gojou seeing Marin in an outfit getting ogled by creepy fans and hating it/feeling more protective because she's his girlfriend). The idea that relationship/sexual tension is necessary to sustain a romantic story and that the resolution of it and transition into an actual romance is the death knell for dramatic or enjoyable storytelling is such an overly tired trope that's not even true as long as you're a halfway competent author.

I have followed this series since the earliest days. It is, to the best of my recollection, one of the first things I put into my feed when I finally made an account on here. The fact that I've seen dozens of conceptually similar odd-couple romcoms live and die in the time that this series has been spinning its wheels on the precipice of these two growing up and admitting their obviously mutual feelings for each other is actually getting irritating at this point.
One simple thing, if She confesses, the series ends.. The Shojo series are rarely able to continue with the two MC in a relationship.. It’s all about the chase..

I know. And that's stupid. There's so much more to be mined from an actual relationship if you've done a good enough job establishing the characters as interesting independently of their not-relationship.

i agree with you that it’s not fun to just have a series where it’s just about the chase..
It would be nice to see the 2MCs develop as a couple..
Few authors are that good..

I
Thank you for the update!

Also, I'm happy to know she actually did mention Potato Salad while she was thinking of what to cook for dinner. Gotta make sure the other team isn't just sneaking in those self-reference jokes without an actual potato reference. :salute:
remember... Marin does not cook.

Gojo finally gets the thrill and pains of having an ambition after keeping himself caged up for so long, so I'm all for this development. He finally earns acknowledgment and realized that he could create good stuff and do good, except now the hurdle is a mangaka who simply couldn't be pleased, so with his perfectionist tendencies ofc he's gonna take it the hardest.

I suppose the climax of this arc is Marin making him realize that not achieving perfection in one go is totally fine … for example, maybe, by making this project a total failure due to his constant attempt at improving the unimprovable, which would be his first failure so far in this entire story. It would serve both as his growth point and also a surefire way to get him closer to Marin, and I think Marin would be more than happy to just be there for him as he cried his heart out.

So, I feel like all this obsession over perfecting the cosplay from Wakana is going to pay off with the mangaka seeing the cosplay at the event and being all, "Whoa, someone did manage to perfectly capture the way the character was supposed to look. Maybe adapting it isnt impossible!" Or something along those lines.

cough Rent A Girlfriend cough Hawaiians arc cough
All things considered rent a girlfriend hasn’t been going on for long, while it might seem so since it has so many published issues once you divide that number by 52 it doesn’t count for much. A far as a worse manga in terms of individual arcs, is a certain scientific railgun because on average each individual arc takes between two to three years to complete! Since each chapter is about 20-25 pages long, there is also an awful amount filler chapters and mangaka also tends to take a break over summer too
