Well there's not really any reason to kill him (thinking logically), hes just a fool from the boonies with no power or influence, (logically) he has no way to influence anything.

Now obviously the author will throw logic to the curve and make everyone EXTREMELY stupid in order to put difficulties in the path of MC, but that's not something the characters should expect.
