Well, it's not a bad choice for a villain. The readers already know who he is, wants him trashed, and it's personal for the MC. But he needs to be powered up to pose a legitimate threat to MC.

The "problem" being is that this plot point is literally copy pasted across 80% of "Got kicked out of my party" kind of stories. It's actually quite remarkable. You can literay make a bingo out of this shit.
