I respect him because he recognizes that as of rn he's too busy with sports. If he just straight-up dated her, then his attention would be divided 50/50. So instead of placing half-ass attention on the chick he likes, he doesn't wanna mess it up and instead wants to be ready for that kind of commitment. Rlly simple example: Literally anyone w a job while going to college knows how dividing their time is stressful
