@Oklam While I'm astonished that the operation apparently worked at all, I think, if this woman could have met them standing on the stolen legs, she would have. Instead she's sitting stiffly on a chair, and the legs never move. I wanted to make the same claim about the hand, as in almost all panels, the fingers are in exactly the same position. The movement of the index finger on the last two pages gave me pause.

I suspect I may be reading too much into things, and that the artist just did things that way to speed up the drawing, though.
