Much as I want to roll my eyes over this prehistoric race war, there's zero doubt that it happened when modern humans came into contact with Neanderthals. It's not hard to imagine at all. Plus, a modern person is clearly at the head of the Neanderthals, and one with military experience. Dehumanizing the enemy is the oldest war tactic there is, and when the enemy is a different color, well, it's pretty easy to do.

Was just about to post a similar comment hahaha. King is too based for an anime adaptation.
Here's hoping the antagonist's motivation isn't just as simple as "im a racist who time travelled to the past". Hopefully, he just used the "white good, colored bad" approach to get the neanderthals to follow him religiously.

It could be something even more childish as in the antagonist just wants to be a "king" and since he spawned in their territory, they just happened to become the ones brainwashed. Don't forget we're looking at an era where people didn't have explanations for most things happening, so as long as he gives "reasonable" explanations, people will call him a messiah or king in this case
