Phrase is already so intimidating back when she was introduced during fort weise arc. She was young then, but now that she's older, she's straight up terrifying. Putting the entire capital under covert surveillance with her mana detection is insane.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm still not sure whether Fräse is gonna protect Serie or actually kill her.

Her statement, "Everything we do is for the Empire's eternal prosperity with magic" can be interpreted both ways.

So if I understand it correctly there is basically a secret civil war between those that support magic and those who want to destroy it (Shadow Warriors).
Not really a civil war because the Shadow Warriors are a entity not formally recognized by the state, the Shadow Warriors were dissolved by the Empire.
The deal is they (Shadow Warriors) were a highly independent force, so even when formally dissolved they just kept going with their mission doing whatever they felt like is better for the empire.
Some time passes and right now the Shadow Warriors and the Empire's ideas are clashing.

So essentially the Shadow Warriors are terrorists trying to kill a VIP right in the midst of a state-sponsored ball so they can desestabilize Magic wich is a concept the Empire highly depends on.

the shadow warrior seems really messed up, its practically brainwashed children terrorist and people with twisted common sense, and maybe some old grudge with that old dwarf. i really hope they get wiped out as completely as possible since it seems they are far too arrogant in their thinking while not able to see the bigger picture that Great Demon actually still has some plan cooking in the background.

but knowing the story i dont see it happening, maybe some get taken down/arrested, one or two killed, and other escaped.

Hmmm, so three different forces are working at odds here huh. Though technically the Guards and Frierens crew are after the same thing. I bet it's gonna be an explosive ball that will be remembered in history! lol Also, wouldn't the demons still have magic? Seems like a dumb thing to strive for, wonder when/if we get a flashback to the reason for it. Thanks for the chapter!
The one who hate magic seems like a person who think lightly of the world, that with the death of Demon Lord, magic is no longer needed.

It's kinda the idiom loop "Hard Time -> Strong People -> Good Time -> Weak People -> Hard Time". And this guy wants to make Weak People era by eliminating magic

In which chapter was she introduced? I've completely forgotten.

Also who was Frieren talking to when she said she was imature?

I can see the Guards attacking the crew right at the beginning and after all is solved, but I guess in the climax they would team up

would be hilariously funny if Phrase is the spymaster , and Serie is picking a fight with Phrase. Its just petty Serie's bitching about that scrim a long time ago that phrase landed a blow on her, and she doesnt look like someone who let those kind of things slide.

Love, love the clash of individuals and ideals/perspectives here. Lowe is probably a radicalized vet, he saw magic's destructive, demoralizing nature in the hands of mages and grand mages in the South and think it would be better for humanity to get rid of it. Frieren is protecting her master's legacy, a world/nation where mankind can use magic freely to thrive and prosper. Serie too, if you think of the way it keeps reminding her of Flamme and denying her grieve of losing her precious daughter/pupil. Each Shadow Warriors also has some sort of independence aside from their normal cold-blooded child soldier persona. Sein's hopeless pursuit being outright denied by Frieren, huge flag. Phrase is also an intriguing figure, she has too many clues to not be the spymaster of the Association.

Also, as a sidenote, I don't like warriors in general in the story. They're clearly superhuman in strength, speed, resilience, and so on, but somehow "don't use magic".
I think you might like the Saints from Toaru series

Given the themes of the manga, ya'll are probably overthinking the reasoning the Shadow Warrior commander has for killing Serie.
It comes off as old and stubborn. Like a cranky old man waving his stick around shouting "Damn kids and their magical whimsy. Back in my day we didn't need no dang magic." The commanders of the group, and likely the people that commanded them before that, can't accept they're redundant and unwanted. All this is an act out of wounded ego.

iirc Warriors still use magic. All living things do. It's more of a fundamental energy than an exclusive power to mages. Warriors use magic kinda like DBZ does Ki. It enhances their physical abilities and pushes them beyond their limits.
