This is refreshing. I do not recall this kind of portrayal of demons anywhere else in manga. Manipulative, deceptive and completely inhuman. "A language to deceive". Clever.

@spigot "surely they'd want to keep some human civilization" Cattle does not need civilization. They can keep remaining ones literally as livestock. And yes, demons were originally meant to be incarnation of malevolence. Before they underwent many different tropes like "noble demon". It is great to see something completely inhuman for a change.

@Trexxe well if you want to hear my head cannon he can just say that Frieren that the one who kill the guard, and he kill Frieren, or just make Frieren corpse disappear and blame Frieren for the kill

@spigot because human right now is to many and dangerous, even if you kill thousand there is million more to eat, so it more eradicate human first cause they dangerous, and if human become few than they probably think about making human farm

#also that was brutal, not chitchat goes for the kill

Also anyone else really love how the mangaka depicts the characters races so differently and well? This story is captivating and refreshing.

And Draht in german means...wire. Lol.
This "who knows" was top of the notch. Hilarious.
And the best thing is, of course, hanging Frieren with "bruh" expression.
Now let's see the action. I love overpowered heroes exterminating infants.

Goddamn, I love this portrayal. The mayor guy had the right idea, but was a bit overconfident in his troops and word-fu.

If you are looking for a point, take note that demons represent a complete lack of empathy, a lack of common shared values and humanity. For demons, these concept are completely foreign, and they are merely capable of using the same words, but not understand the meaning behind some of them.

In the beginning of this manga, we were presented with the fact that some humans, namely those who commented on Frieren's behaviour at the hero's funeral, considered that she lacked empathy.

This couldn't be further from the truth, and over the chapters, we have been presented with the myriad of subtle ways in which she displays her empathy and humanity. Of course, she does not attach the same value to certain aspects of her life due to how she experiences them. Her humanity appears to be faint. For instance, you can contrast the demon's complete lack of understanding of what a family is with how Frieren understands it. Frieren understands what a family is and had one, but she hasn't seen them in several hundreds of years and hasn't even met another elf in that period. Her values in that regard may appear monstrous.

I'm not sure why you thought there would be a twist here. It's just interesting to see that humans forget about the nature of demons and repeatedly project their own empathy on them, and yet are just as capable of seeing a lack of empathy in Frieren due to her behaviour as she does not attempt to deceive them in regards to how she values and experiences events. It's like judging a book from its covers, and humans continuously do this, labeling others through a single interaction or a trait when this is never enough to determine someone's "content".

@roata11 I thought about that but then he has to say I was visiting her in the jail or I was wandering around the city so not being in the drawing room although the demons seem not to be allowed to walk around freely they always had guards around them.
It would have made more sense to wait for her to attack them that's also what Lügner is waiting for I assume. Sending a hotheaded young demon on a mission like this seems to be a huge oversight even if he's powerful that's not important in this scenario.

when she said "what is a father" i literally screamed....... this points out how demons only use human language to deceive and do not understand the concept of family, even tho they seem to have hierarchy system

@cryum I'd like to think that demon world puts effort into polishing their rhetorics much like how magic and melee has evolved in this manga. At the very least, Lugner is far more eloquent than any other demon we've come across. Imagine a demon school dedicated to the recital of melancholy words and phrases, simply for the sake of weaponizing feels.

@tuatara1 I don't like it either. This started out a manga about the passage of time and someone allowing themselves to feel, and now it's about how there are certain people who will lie and manipulate you by referencing your common humanity.
Don't like it one bit, no sir, no ma'am.
