Cape comics are truly crazy in that once you hit the bottom, you realize that it isn’t even the bottom at all.

Lest we forget, one Spider-Man arc had Peter fight a pair of assassins which turned out to be his children with Gwen Stacy. Except the top brass at Marvel hated the idea of Peter being a father, so they had it retconned so that Norman Osborn had sex with Gwen instead and they were his kids. And then even later, it was retconned again so that Norman only thought he had sex with Gwen, and it was actually an illusion Mysterio made for shits and giggles.

Comics can get weird.

Spider-man in particular is an incredibly messy combination of a long running character with an ongoing series that has never taken a break and copious amounts of editorial interference. It's honsetly shocking that 616 Spidey lore isn't even worse than it already is.
