I braced myself as I read this chapter, thinking that there would be two abuse subtexts that would play out:
1) Kotaro thinking that the “seeker” must hit the “hider.” Subtext would be that Kotaro hid from his previous parents whenever they were enraged.
2) Kotaro not understanding why the fist (rock) loses to the raised hand (paper). Subtext would be that Kotaro used to futilely raise his hands to shield himself from his parents’ punches.
I’m glad that this chapter turned out wholesome, and that neither of these subtexts occurred.
