"Hmm, I'm really excited to work with this mangaka again, but I'm not sure I have the skill to tease out her best work... I know! I'll ambush her with the guy who everyone blames for driving her out of the business and stunted her grown as an artist by making her give up on writing for years! That'll help!"
A character being a belligerent dick isn't a problem. If the story tries to convince us that being a belligerent dick is a good and beneficial thing? THAT'S a problem. The more realistic take would be that he's a really good editor who's badly held back by his shitty attitude. There's a difference between tough love and being an asshole just to blame other people for getting upset, but I get the feeling that the author isn't going to draw that line very clearly.
Which is weird, when a big theme of the story as a whole is how cool and talented people can end up self-sabotaging their lives by lashing out at others, and how we have to suppress that fearful instinct if we ever want to connect with people on a deeper level, but oh well.
