It could be moved to a different key or maybe a key combination that's unlikely to be accidental. Maybe require full <> instead at the beginning?

But are you sure that is even possible to override specific markdown syntax? From my understanding Xenforo markdown support is all or none (for the basic syntax)

You can do it pretty easily, just use [plain]>[/plain] in the BBCode editor
