I love this, though it follows half of that prompt... but anyways, I love it.-5L.16.203
It seems every year I enjoy the Games less and less. I would normally attribute it to my age, but… no. There are simply other matters I am more tied to than the same trite competitions of military show, though one would think I would be more invested considering my direct involvement this solstice!
That hunter (I am unsure of whether to call him a boy as he acts or a man as he has miraculously survived to) from the neighboring throne has been assigned to be my wedded spouse. Of course, I doubt that either party is satisfied with the arrangement. It's hard to believe he loves much apart from the tavern and the back of a horse and likewise I would probably be more interested in his horse than him.
I suppose I should feel flattered that my mother finds me to be equivalent to whatever amount of remaining gold we would have received from reparations, but

I slam the book shut and stand nearly fast enough to send the chair to the ground as that incessant knocking refuses to stop. I've barely opened my mouth to chastise whoever's at the door before they take the liberty of entering regardless.
“My Lady,” Isolde says, slowing the stride she was taking to enter as she sees that I'm already awake. “I apologize. Have I disturbed you? I was making sure you have already awoken, but it seems it wasn't needed.”
“I— yes, I'm awake. Thank you, no, I've been awake for a while now. What is it?”
“No, My Lady, you aren't required anywhere for several hours yet. This was just a personal matter. It's unlike you to remain in your chambers this long in the morning, and I was beginning to worry.”
I contemplate… doing something. Get angry? Throw something? Immediately call her away? I never know what to do around her, and it's frustrating to no end. She's infuriating! She's a guard, not a servant! Who does she think she is? She's not even in service to me, she's in service to the King, she's just assigned to my protection, and—
“...thank you, Isolde. Your care is appreciated. You're dismissed,” I sigh, closing the distance between us and standing at the door. “Knock quieter next time, okay? You'll send your fist through the door, and I am not covering for you. If I don't respond I'm bathing or busy and neither are your concern.”
She smiles, and then laughs softly. “Of course, My Lady. I'll keep it in mind.”
I don't comment on how long she lingers in the doorway before closing the door and excusing herself.
I love the use of metaphors, especially the horse lines..
The princess has a very distinct voice, which I love. I can already see she is witful and sarcastic.
Great use of show not tell, especially in the line "I contemplate… doing something." instead of saying, "I like her". I instantly know she is in love, or atleast have conflicted feelings towards her.
