I think the thing that really gives me chills with japanese horror is that its kinda nonsensical. Like in the west there's like a reason as to why the characters are targeted like doing something morally wrong or not listening to a warning, but not in Japan. You run out of toilet paper in a stall? You can die for that. A crow dies because you rode your bike over a pebble which you could have no control over?? You get to watch your loved ones die before you do
