I mean I think it’s self explanatory. He was abused as a child and wants to be better than his parents. Thus once the succubus came under his care he wanted to do all he could to ensure her happiness while their still together.

They get handed the world on a platter, then turn around and beat their children.

That's kind of wrong though. So many boomers have a lot of repressed childhood trauma. And one of the reasons the trauma is repressed is because they never knew they were abused, it was seen as normal child rearing strategies.

Not saying they weren't wrong for not learning to treat their own children better. But there was no such thing as the world on a platter in their childhood. That only came later in their lives, and some made the wrong connection that their success was due to developing toughness in their childhood rather than just the economy getting better.
