It's strange how all of the intrigue and deception was brushed aside in a way that didn't inconvenience the main characters in any way. It makes the time spent setting it up feel kinda wasted. I wonder if this is how the author always intended to end the series, or if he decided to just give the readers the ending they were asking for.

Such a weird ending... It feels like this isn't reality and that this chapter is either a dream playing out or there would be a reveal that they are dead or something like that. Maybe the bag in the ocean is symbolism of them living on borrowed time?

Maybe I'm just a bit confused. So did the guy show the investigators what happened, leading to them dropping the investigation and let them go free? That'd be the only way them coming back and living like nothing happened would work, I feel.

Nah, this was definitely the ending it needed. An abrupt, succinct end to all their worries and problems. A culmination of the support they got through all their friends and colleagues. Anything less would have just continued the anxiety that something could still go wrong and these two didn’t deserve that. The police wouldn’t be that hard to put off: without the camera there wouldn’t be any evidence to contradict the fact that the guy just fled never to return. And then using the cafe to signal that they were safe and loved was a heartwarming touch.

This may have been rushed but then again maybe not. It felt nice and complete, Marie and Aki not only got to ride off into the sunset together they also got to come home and love their lives free for the first time.
And that's what this series is about in retrospect, the creeping sense of unease came from that notion that freedom is hard won, easily lost, and requires you to carry your sins on your soul. Yet, it is worth it.

It has all been worth it.
So thank you Tsukinowa Ao, for a wonderful story.

Did you miss the bit where he was destroying the disk?

Despite everything they've been through, they can live happy lives together. If there's an English release, I'll probably grab all 3 volumes, as a reminder.

Yeah, I saw that. But then what was the "information on whereabouts of the missing manager" that he mentioned to the detective on page 2? I sincerely doubt the detective would let him walk away after confirming he had information.

For sure. I thought that whole interaction was weird as I was translating it. What I'm guessing is that the author wanted to focus on our girls, while the investigation and Yokiri were secondary and up for interpretation. Which is fair, because usually Japanese stories LOVE to leave relationship statuses open for interpretation. I still haven't recovered from Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn.

Anyway, the way I see it, we can either take it as Yokiri taking the blame and going to prison or not. All we get is him closing the laptop after updating their menu to include wishing happiness to Marie and Aki. Personally, I assumed that was his last move before going to prison and that smile was him coming to terms with his decision.

As for rushing(this is for the thread and not for who I'm quoting), for the investigation plot, sure. But as far as their relationship goes, we've had basically them flirting and being fluffy for... most of the story. A nice slow burn that actually gave us multiple kisses. A lot of time we don't even get that.
