I wonder how effective soldiers' heavy armors when taking fire from machine guns.

that coaxial 50 cal on a type 10 MBT will go through . 75 inches or 19mm of rolled homogeneous steel and I'm guessing those armor plates are either cast or forged, a lot weaker than rolled

@welcome2atlantis pretty much any bullet - even a small caliber from a pistol - will shred medieval armour like butter. a full size rifle bullet or a heavy machine gun bullet even more so.

and if it doesn't penetrate with one shot, it will dent it. some armor used to be sold with a dent to show that it survived a round. but denting will weaken the metal too. that was with more primitive guns. modern small calibur travels at a sufficient speed that would penetrate most metal armor. plus, chain mail tends to be the standard. even leather is high class armor in those days. perhaps heavy armory would survive, but not the armor piercing rounds that would be in the machine guns. those bullets are thick and long.

If you march heavy cav blindly without any scouting, you deserve whatever happens to you. If you line heavy infantry against long range artilery knowingly , well, I pity Death to have to deal with such a stupid person

That said, apparently the Japanese think they are defending Japan by invading someone else . How very ... Imperial of them

They were under the assumption that those were battering rams. Those tend to contain only footsoldier, and not too many. Had heavy cav gotten close to dozens of footsoldiers, either infantry or archers, they might've won, depending on how they go about doing it.

As for the heavy infantry, they think japan is using magic. Magic tends to be exhaustible, meaning they're throwing men until they run out of magic.

As for Japan... They're reliant on two nations to keep them fed, and to keep them with resources needed to keep society and the economy going without problems. So, they're in a way protecting their allies and themselves by invading an enemy to defeat them.

@pepork its impossible for them to be rolled given their technology, the pinnacle of plate armor was still just iron and steel mixed together and hammered into shape. Using it for infantry armor would be a tremendous waste. It would be like discovering gunpowder and only using it for fireworks.
