SUNNY 16 - Ch. 10 - How Have You Been?

Thanks to this manga, last week I went out and took some photos with a DSLR (borrowed from a relative) for the first time since my photography class in high school. It was a blast, even though I mostly don't know what I'm doing. Maybe I should start saving up for a camera too...

By filling the whole room I wonder what they have in mind, the exhibition we saw by Reo (that's the other pro, right?) had all kind of different pictures in hand size in color(I assume), imagine how many pictures would you need to fill an entire classroom ? even black and white or enlarged, the cost and amount its gonna be nuts.

Her group of friends is very nice.

She could make displays with a writeup or something to pad out the room and also give some context. Photo exhibits come in many forms, but the ones I've visited often had a lot of space between photos and each one was rather big, like the size of a typical canvas.

Not even a year into photography and she has a whole room exhibit? The pressure on her is crazy.

Hope she gets into zines or photobooks after.

Negative space is also a consideration.

Dedicating an entire wall to a single photograph placed dead center with meters of blank space on all sides of it can make a hell of a statement, depending on the photograph.

Having an entire room is definitely daunting, but the story that can be expressed with that extra space can be all the more impactful.

I love how this is teaching photography as Art, not just technical process. The way you make the photo, the space you present it, the method of presentation. And the unpredictable reaction between the presentation and the viewer. It all contributes to the way we form meaning from images.

It's appropriate that it's a soon-to-graduate HS girl on this journey. I didn't really learn about this stuff until a few years into my Bachelor's degree. When I was in art classes in HS, I was just as clueless and lost as the MC. It's giving me the feels.
