Here is the web novel's description of the rescue scene in that chapter for comparison. IMO the manga rendition is a major improvement. If the anime adaptation took this route, there would've been way less controversy about Episode 11.

Shii's breakdown in Koguma's apartment reminded me of this old song. While Shii was a lot less violent than Jimmy, they're both expressing frustration with a seemingly unending winter. Both have the same solution to their problem: Travel south, which leads to another Jimmy Buffett song, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. As they make their journey, they'll see nothing remains quite the same.
