The commander didn't lose just an earlobe, he lost the entire cartilage structure of the ear, known as the auricle. Which has been studied extensively as a part of the human body to understand why it's shaped the way it is.

Unfortunately the link is unreachable, but to comment on the quote - interesting, but how statistically significant is this? The evidence I mentioned was also concerned with vertical localization (first discoverer, in fact) and there were a lot of follow up studies, but never has the effect been described so drastically as "utterly unable to tell". It was always established that while present, the effect was highly individual. Also the auricale, the pinna and the earlobe are just synonyms for the same structure. Do note as well, that the previous guy described it very differently than just a question of height.

The earlobe is a part of the auricle/pinna. It's the flappy bit that sometimes connects to the neck but has no hard cartilage in it, and is typically what gets pierced (other piercings are deliberately called cartilage piercings for that reason lol

But to answer your question, I have no idea, and I'm sure it is highly based on the individual as everyone processes noise differently, but the takeaway is that it impacts the way soundwaves enter the ear canal, which impacts the way those soundwaves are processed, and has repeatable evidence for affecting our ability to identify where a sound is coming from, which would be detrimental on a battlefield, even if only a minor inconvenience in day-to-day life

Pinna and auricle are the same thing, earlobe is part of them and not the same thing.

They merely packed the ridges on the auricle, which impacts the ability to tell audio directionality vertically. They obviously didn't remove the entire auricle, which removes the front/back directionality.
But since you're willing to accept small ridges affecting verticality, I'm at this point not sure how it could be any more obvious that the dish shaped attachment to your head, which makes sounds from the front louder and from the rear more muffled, affects your ability to tell where a sound is coming from in the front/rear direction. Y'know, the way more pronounced and stronger feature compared to those small ridges.

False report there’s no way you killed that many

“Sir there are a mountain of dead bodies here”

See I did it myself

“Lies, you had assistance”

“Sir we sent him alone all this time and there’s no signs of anyone else but enemies”

See I did it myself

“That’s it your going to be sentenced to death for murder and lying”

-murders them all-
See? I did it myself~

You're thinking of the lobule, the squishy lower part of the earlobe

They merely packed the ridges on the auricle, which impacts the ability to tell audio directionality vertically. They obviously didn't remove the entire auricle, which removes the front/back directionality.

I didn't say I'm "willing to accept it removing verticality", affecting, sure but that's quite a leap from what you're proposing. You still didn't anwser just where do you get your sources for such drastic strangely specific claims, like the ones in the previous post. Far more specific than any research I'm familiar with.

Not a high bar to jump for MC not to be the stereotypical "herbivore MC" in these types of stories, but then it gets path corrected quite quickly and stays the course with convenient beautiful Elf woman. Good ol' Junk food.

Damn, okay... This looks really interesting. A psychopath (normal person) as an MC... thanks for TL! :D

On one hand, it's one of those fucking things where the MC is a complete fucking idiot who somehow managed to become world-class without even comprehending it.

On the other hand, this guy went and racked up an body count instead of meekly letting himself be killed. He successfully managed to step over a bar set so low it's in Hell, where most MCs in these fucking things still manage to trip over it.

Yeah I'm in the squad of those who rather like it now after this second chapter. He's sticking to his standards, he's a wanderer from afar after all, deciding to go mercenary to make some money and nothing else, and he's completely wack and loving it.

As long as his former sword doesn't turn out to be a young woman in sword-form, because that would be going too far.

I appreciate that the MC isn't a little goody two shoes. It makes sense that a mercenary and soldier wouldn't have much issue killing others... it's an oddly low bar that I'm impressed that a manga protagonist would be this reasonable. :shamihuh:

Out of everything you can describe him, I don't think 'reasonable' fits. He seems fun, though. In an "Oh this guy is obviously a psychopath" way. Not sure how things are going to develop from there, if they're going to lean in that trait and work some character development through that.

Or this is just going to run through the standard isekai plot with a slightly different protagonist. Who knows.

Oh no... Its gonna be exactly that right? I read about this being a webnovel originally but didn't read any spoilers. The sword is in Love with him isn't it? Ah man we were this Close to edgy greatness with the total psychopathy. The forced in elf Support already dampened it a Bit ... Don't Tell me this is a harem Manga ._.
