What's the point in sending the females of a physical combat-based race away in a situation like this if both genders have the same muscle mass? It's one thing for them to exhibit the less physically confrontational behavior we see in human females due to innate psychological differences in day-to-day life, but it's just plain dumb for them not to even come to the defense of their home when it's being shingeki'd by a kyojin considering it wouldn't really be a good survival strategy for a colony-based species to eject their combat-capable females when facing sticky situations, significantly reducing their chances of survival in exchange for what, a monogendered group incapable of parthenogenesis remaining somewhere out there in the wild? It might kind of fly if the orcs had swarm-like numbers and/or some pheromone or magic-based means to find other colonies, but as it is, it's very unlikely for specimens that exhibit this type of behavior to efficiently pass on their genetic material to the next generation.

Or maybe I'm in far too contemplative a mood to be reading this right now if this is my reaction to a throwaway phrase in a manga not really written to fulfill anything resembling satisfaction on an intellectual level. It was fun to sperg out though.

@twinklecake even if they have the means to protect themselves and their kids the arithmetics of reproduction still apply, especially in a species that must have a fairly low life expectancy.
You see this same behaviour in all kinds of non-dimorphic species. Wolves, birds, marsupials, etc., etc. when there's communal rearing or both parents raise the offspring, even though they're physically identical, when the time comes, it's the male's job to stand and die

There are quite a few species where the female does more of the fighting. And if the young are in danger, both genders will stand and fight.
I'm going to have to agree with Twinkle a little. The orcs are a combat species. And the females are just as large and powerful as the males. It makes little sense that they wouldn't fight. Admittedly, though. If a few females did run in to fight, how would we even know?

@Riger I'm not saying there aren't, but usually it's when either they have the dimorphic advantage or when they raise the kids alone.
Unfortunaly for the males, in any community their value will be lower and only when the survival of the kids depends on them being as strong as possible(e.i. lions) will they be spared from most of fighting.

Edit: Can you give me any example? because the only species were the female does most of the fighting I can think of are hyenas

How about the lions you mentioned?
The only thing the male lions generally fight are other males. The females do all the hunting, and a lot of the fighting outside the pride's territory.
And since there's a lot more of those than there are males trying to take over, the females fight far more often.

While not centric of fighting, there are a decent variety of species that do equal hunting and territory protection, this can be seen a lot with mating pairs of mammals and birds, but at least in the bird world I know two cool exceptions exist in the forms of Jacanas and Phalaropes, both of these are aquatic species that in the breeding season the females form territories and they each lay one to two egg with each male in their are. So while the males are in charge on their own to raise the chicks (with Jacanas even evolving cool methods of transporting the chicks in their wings away from danger), the females instead protect the territory, mostly from other females that come to take their men.

@Riger yeah lions are kind of wierd because their most important role is keeping their cubs from being murdered by other males. They're so dominant that the females can bring down just about anything that africa has to trow at them.
@luisg1996 really interesting read and really cool birds, especially the Jacana. Because they're birds and so don't get pregnant they can get away with a complete reversal of roles.

I know it's kinda late because it's in the cover but since when are goblin tanned colored? I thought the tanned colored character in the cover were supposed to be because of some sort of evolution.
