Many western readers have come to love and even vaunt more than a few well-written tsunderes as "best girl." This poor example has yet to demonstrate any of the depth or charm prerequisite to bridge the gap in cultural values. Most readers here just don't have the inherent tolerance towards "women being unpleasant/bitchy" that comes with the East Asian(?) cultural standpoint.Ehh I think western readers are just more hostile to tsunderes where as they're obviously popular in Japan.
Yeah, I've noticed this smokescreen as well. A bunch of authors use the long, arduous journey of self-improvement to trick the reader into forgetting that all they're doing is bringing the character to everyone else's starting line.Rude characters always win most likely because of character development shit. Like in current manga like:
Silent witch.
I'm engaged with the girl I hate the most too.
I read some of like this but I forgot the titles.

Most tsunderes are written as just mean trash. Here Yuri just can't help being a bitch by reflex. Many western readers have come to love and even vaunt more than a few well-written tsunderes as "best girl."
