It's best to get this kind of insecurity out of the way; this being her first relationship with somebody means that she's harboring a lot of new feelings of doubt, and not tackling them at all would only rob the series of its fluffy strength.

Honestly, as a person who also has garbage self-esteem.... I get it.
Hopefully, she snaps out of it next chapter. Dude's pretty much proven a couple times that she'd have to beat him off with a stick to lose him.

Ah, first love. Every emotion amplified to the max and your chest is always on the verge of bursting.
Crying. A lot of crying.
Learning to be vulnerable for the first time in your life.
Learning to trust your love.
Learning to trust yourself.
And then cry some more because he spaced out for a few minutes during lunch today.
And then even more when you learned he was thinking about what to get for your birthday.
First love.

You know, making them have sex in the first chapter kinda sorta brought the pay off too fast. Usually romance manga END with them having sex or getting married but nah... this BEGAN with it. The pay off is gone now. Why am I even reading anymore? This childish relationship drama feels like...I don't know...it isn't ...I don't know. We already know they will end up together, I mean they ARE together...yet... I don't know. I don't know the stakes here.

@RubyG8396 sex is and has never been the goal or "payoff", that IS a kind of childish thinking
sex can come later in the relationship or it can come early, depending on the level of compatibility between the parties and the driving factors of lust, mood, empathy, etc. etc.
their relationship started out with the guy smelling the girl and the girl not rejecting it, and smelling someone in close proximity is a highly intimate act
i'd be surprised if they DIDN'T get it on within the first week

@elefantine97 I know everybody is relating this to reality and trying to step in our MC's shoes but plot wise, I am having trouble seeing the structure.

Sex...well umm... I agree that it suited the mood at the time but I don't know where the climax in this series is supposed to be anymore. It seems mellow and cute and kinda ... NORMAL. Absolutely normal. The first date. The first this. The first that. Which would be fine...but...most romances revolve around the characters getting together and not after the fact. Usually when there is something after the fact, there are some high stakes that would split our two MCs apart. But nope. Nothing. Most of the conflict is from our protagonist being inexperienced, which I normally would be okay with but at this point, it feels like to continue what would otherwise be a oneshot, there has to be some forced drama.

Sex usually is the payoff for the kinds of series I read. Either that or officially "getting together" or officially getting married or SOMETHING. It helps readers have a goal to get to, which is very important in the story and it puts all the conflict into context. What is the climax going to be now? Some rival showing up that surpasses our MC in almost every way? Somebody's parent's splitting them up? Losing their memory? Some other cliched things that had no build up from the beginning? The only way this would work in my head would be for them to break up as the end game. But there was no hinting to this at the beginning. Dude...wow...this really fell flat for me.

Unless you tell me that later on something big, dramatic and absolutely abnormal for normal people happens to our main characters - that our mangaka actually handles well, I think I am dropping this.

Yeah, better that you drop it. This is more like a slice of life where you focus more on the characters’ daily lives instead of fast-forwarding to every dramatic event
