I'm positive that the Soviet Union didn't exist in the 7th century (page 30). It's also not a historical name for a geographical region. And you probably should have used the Chinese names for Journey of the West characters (Sun Wukon, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing).

If they know exactly when the boy died, why don't they just time travel to the time of the avalanche instead of following them every day?

Page 30, the author used the current names (at that time - 1978) of the countries. That's why Soviet Union (ソ連) was mentioned.
He also used the Japanese names for Journey to the West characters. The names were written in kanji with furigana (Japanese reading aid).
孫悟空 - そんごくう (son go kuu)
八戒 - はっかい (hakkai)
etc.
If they travelled to the time of the avalanche directly, there would be no monkey and pig things. :eek:
