This reminds me of the gintama arc where people got so addicted to a mobile dating game, they actually visualize their girlfriends into the real world. They then hold competitions with said girlfriends to see who gets to the top. The above comment was gintoki reacting to the fact that his 'girlfriend' become visible to him and fellow peers in the real world.
