I'm honestly glad the MC is starting to realize that history isn't what it always seems to be. This might sound cringe, but there is some truth in "History is written by the victor". This is especially true with very old sources in history that is usually written from the POV of one person and those people love writing their biases.

Well sometimes, it’s a little overused like that saying about how scientists who discover breakthroughs are considered fools by their contemporaries is often used by quacks. Remember 1x1=2

Well, to me it feels cringe to say it because I first learned that line from the character of General Shepard from Call of Duty MW2. Of course I know now that people have been saying similar quotes for a long time now.

I wonder how far the rewriting goes? It could be history was written by Wilhelm after stealing MCs actions throughout his lifetime. I do hope it goes off the rails completely rather than him living the legend.

The fact that MC was raised by the books of a liar makes it quite a bit more distinct than other reincarnations as a villain. Since in those it was a third party that wrote the story. Adding an extremely unreliable narrator to the book was a nice touch.

Is Wilhelm actually someone isekaid into a game world(assuming game lore regurgitates what mc knew) and he's using his (albeit faulty because he doesn't know the lore was embellished) knowledge to his own ends?

MC's "memories" are from a dude living 300 years after what's happening and he learnt it from an epic tale, basically the same as learning history of Three Kingdom period via Romance of Three Kingdoms and not history books. Assuming history (pre-reincarnation) was rewritten under Wilheim's order after he killed OG Rudolph, this led to a clusterfuck of "inconsistencies" between MC's knowledge and what's currently going on.
