There' a possibility that the Emperor wants him to "suffer|struggle" in order to climb up. That OR he views him as a "threat" to his "legitimate" children, and wishes to see him crushed to prevent "competition". Though, honestly, I suspect it's actually him forcing him to endure great hardship in order to "prove" himself. Though, I can't say for sure. The Emperor may also just be a fuckbag who needs to have some up close and personal time with his new "daughter-in-law". It isn't "les majeste" if it's between parent and child... Fu. fu .fu!~
