He really is a wretched piece of shit, but he's the edgy protagonist so a certain readership will bend over backwards to defend him.

This is clearly not for me. I don't really understand why it would appeal to anyone, but oh well. Have fun with it, I guess.
Must agree with you pal, a good chunk of mangas is getting pretty stale as i'm getting older, people almost crucified me one time because i said that the Hero (not the mc) in 'Akuyaku Kizoku to shite Hitsuyou na Sore' wasn't as bad as the manga was trying to portray so far and that in some particular scene, the heroines overreacted way too much to what he did and that most of times it's a cheap way of the author to make people create enmity with the character but was simply poorly made.

This one was getting pretty dull with the whole protagonist actions, kinda dropped it in chapter 13, opened this chapter because the 178 comments intrigued me, and what i get, people don't seeing how the whole mc personality is flawed, not saying that a story couldn't have this as a plot point, i love unconventional pretest, but it's has been done in a pretty juvenile way so far.

If anyone want some fresh air i recommend this one it's pretty cool, a bit over in some moments but pretty enjoyable so far. peace!

I'll never understand Japanese authors infatuation with slavery. It ruins so many good stories. Like, what was the purpose of this scene at all? It could have been about literally anything and he chose to make the MC pro-slavery because it would be "hard" to abolish or some stupid shit. "Necessary evil" my ass man, fuck this guy. This shit was already getting boring with the super repetitive constant fighting.

A. easy plot device to get a faithful companion when the world is against the main character
B. Medieval/early modern setting and what was the most common thing everywhere in the world around such periods? slavery... remember slavery were only viewed as bad/abolished in most parts of the world late 1800s so it's more believable to have slavery in such settings than removing it

What part of "isn't necessarily evil" went over your head? He's pointing out essentially the only pro, being that children aren't dying from starvation
ppl denying this dont understand the how removing a system can equaly fuck up the ppl ur freeing from said system
they have no possessions, will still be discriminated against for being poor or ex-slave
not to mention the young slaves what they gonna do? get a job they cant they are kids they dotn know how money works or how to even get jobs and will prob just end up being exploited again

I don't like slavery just like the next guy.

Heck! My country has been colonized for 3 century a long time ago and the first thing they did after getting their freedom is to imitate the one who colonized them and tear each other down.

So, yeah. I don't support slavery. But what could Weiss do? The teacher in class asked his opinion about slavery and he gave the most safest answer that wouldn't put a mark on his back. And when Allen confronted Weiss he didn't have a long term solution for slavery he just simply said slavery is bad. And that's it.

But I believe Weiss simply become argumentative because it's Allen. If it's Allen CF he might let her bent her frustration and left it as is.

But let's be honest here, their arguments about slavery wouldn't lead to something. And besides, even if Weiss wanted to abolished slavery he would need allies who are equal to him and share the same belief as him and with how much he focus on the plot and not to mention how infamous he is, I doubt he could do it.

Good lord, I'm still getting notifications about this chapter.
What's with all the 5heads getting up in their feelings about the, I think first mention of, slavery in this manga that so far hasn't been brought up again in chapters after this (correct me if I'm wrong.)

You lemmings can't ease off your keyboard warrior "activism" to understand that Weiss reacted and said the things he's saying because the original personality of the body he's in has the biggest possible hateboner for Allen. If any of you remember.. he had himself under control UNTIL he met Allen the first time at the school. From that point on the OG Weiss began more or less steering the boat for the explicit purpose of antagonizing Allen.

the japanese passive opinion on slavery never fails to piss me off, even tho (and i hope im right here) the meaning to his pro slavery rant was him subconciously taking a stance that was different from allen's, the fact that the same "live and let live" bystander ass argument about slavery in other cultures is essentially showing up here word for word is unbearable.

Jeez, MC's being "Okay" with slavery existing always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, IMO it really bugs me to the point where I just can't continue some of the stories I read, it angers me further when story goes, "Oh but it's actually not as bad as you think it its!" and list reasons why it's necessary. Like dawg, it's still just slavery??? Why are you preaching this to me like it's a positive thing?? Idk, I guess I keep thinking back to the a saying floating around the internet, I'm paraphrasing here but it went something along the lines of,
"Never argue with somebody John Brown would have shot."
Is it too much to ask for an MC that just doesn't give a damn about another world's views on slavery and does what he can to abolish it?
That being said, did you guys know there's a John Brown isekai story? Go check it out if you got the time.

Finished the chapter, glanced to the right at the number of comments and I knew I was in for a fun time.

WTF, does the author really expect me to side with the MC's pro-slavery bulshit?
He expects you to notice how the original Weiss' wicked personality affects the mc's to the point of nearly taking him over, meaning he's not only up against external adversaries but "himself" as well.
It's not some social commentary; it's probably just using an easy target to set up future plots.

Alot of people engaging in slacktivism-style moral grandstanding along with people trying to make them think otherwise.

Just remember that people who are set and stubborn in their ways won't change. That involves acknowledging that they were wrong in some level. People do not like being wrong. Even in the face of irrefutable facts and circumstances, they will still believe their own because doing otherwise will admit that they were wrong. Even putting a gun/sword to their face will just make a verbal change under duress and will not change their own belief.

That and people are putting too much thought into a setting of a manga/LN/WN. Why not just shrug and enjoy it if you do? If you don't, I'm sure there are other works that are more your taste? I'm sure something like the PreCure series would be more your speed in that case.

Thanks for the TL! Hope for the next chapter <3
Murder? Neat worldbuild.
[Insert current bad word/idea]? Litteraly unreadable, must oppose.

People don't realize how warped their morals are when they umproptedly display the lines in the sand they let algorythms draw for them.

Weird how none of these saints seemingly had opinions about original Weiss trying to assault Cyntia... That surely must mean they okay with grape, if their own "logic" was worth anything.

so mc is fully supporting slavery, expresses social darwinistic views about poor people "overbreeding" and is full supporter of tyranny of inheritable nobility? lol i quess its refreshing for story to be so open about characters disgusting views.
You were very close but still missed the point: were those Mc's views or is the body's disgusting OG personality haunting him? As it has already been established it happens when he comes across Alen? As Milk makes him realize it literally just happened?

Was it a social commentary from the author? Was it character development? Or was "bad thing" merely easy pickings to showcase the characters inner conflict?

I don't remember if it was a previous chapter, or one of the novel versions that goes into more detail - but MC is not "pro slavery", but very much understanding of why it exists in this world, and just how difficult it would be to abolish as a practice.
As in - looking at just IRL USA history, a literal war was fought over it. And the ramifications still echo through the country's history into the present.

He lays out some of it here - he's just annoyed at the empty idealism and vacuous platitudes that Allen expresses, because it's really easy to say "[Thing] is bad", when you're not also following that statement up with meaningful steps to actually walk that talk.
He is on the record somewhere as thinking slavery is abhorrent, but he's also considering just how immense tackling the removal of that system would be, given the uphill battle of facing off against all of the nobility that not only relies on, but economically thrives on it - the situation of all the people formerly in bondage, the actual economic impact that would have to be addressed - both in terms of the removal of that labor pool, but also the money to pay them to work, the housing, clothing, food, medical care, and more they would all require, and so on.
And he also acknowledges that, in some senses, children put into bondage who've lost their families to war, abandonment, famine/disease and so on, are given some modicum of stability and material guarantee, if not comfort. It's clearly not good, but for the present moment, it means they're not on the streets either dying or resorting to violence and theft, creating downstream issues for society at large.

TL;DR Weiss is super pragmatic about the realities of it while being personally against it; Allen is 100% emotion and idealistic rhetoric but offers zero actionable solutions.

But it would seem that, where Allen is concerned, the OG Weiss is more prone to coming to the surface than normal, and in ways MC can't always anticipate and control.
thanks for explaining this detail, this really gives good point of view on how to see the story progression

(sorry for bad english)

Strange chapter. It's hard to know if the MC really thinks what he preached about here, or if it was just Weiss speaking through him. Although, I wouldn't expect much from a manga, moreso an Isekai, about that topic, given the amount of them where the MC ends up buying a slave girl just for sex.

Anyway people, just like murder, slavery=bad. That's all.
