I'm sure Evan would like nothing more than to not have to fight demons and just get along with them. Him being nice to Lily is just preventing a demon from going bad later. And it's had a spillover effect by making Lily's friend stopping doing bad things, too. I'm sure he does actually care for her, but he was probably self-serving at the start.
