I was also a little slow about women at age 26 (even though I was on a second marriage at 26).
So I get him being unaware for a month or two.
But I am beginning to wonder if Japanese men are just completely idiotic when it comes to other humans even existing. I mean, a trope is one thing, but... if the story and the people in it are all developing, and learning amd growing, but the MC is still mentally an Eleven-year-old?
I mean... at that point it's not a trope, but a severe learning disability.

A mini-lesson on the transition to iron age since Valetta said how iron is unbeatable.

Stone tools were good but required a lot of skill and effort to make. Stones were brittle and making a mistake on production would destroy any process.

Copper fixed that problem by being reusable and more easily workable so it became the preferred material. That said, stone tools were still largely used during chalcolithic age due to low copper supply.

At some point arsenic got mixed in copper and that made the tools stronger, perhaps mixed in with the ores at first. Arsenic is a very hazardous material to work with so the blacksmiths looked for a replacement until they eventually found tin.

Copper has always been relatively easy to find but the 10% tin needed for bronze was the problem. Large tin deposits are rare and far between so you would need a lot of effort to trade enough for an abundant supply.

Iron on the other hand is reasonably common and can be worked without extra additions. That's why the iron is so valued here.

Yes, iron is stronger than bronze. But it's not like iron will cut through bronze like butter. It's not that much better. The important part is in the availability and the strength is a nice addition on top.

Yeah, I'm a little confused if he thinks they are using steel or (wrought) iron. Switching from the bronze age to the iron age didn't just auto upgrade straight to steel (from pig iron).
