Adaptation of a game, might be missing a tag or two in that regard. You can check out a demo for the original on Steam too if you'd be interested in that end of things. I think an episode or two of the Tales of Zestiria anime adaptation was actually about the start of this story too. So there you go, including this since there's chapters missing you now have a bunch of options for getting just a taste of this before probably having to buy or pirate the game to see how it ends.

It's certainly no substitute to original, but it serves as a very good summary of the start to refresh my memory since I haven't played in awhile

This is a very bad adaptation. You can't just put 60 hours of a jrpg into 2 volumes of manga. So much is cut out, the order of things is sometimes changed to merge separate occasions, it feels baffling for someone who played the game.
At the same time, for what it is, this is a very good adaptation. Fitting 60 hours of jrpg into 2 volumes of manga might be a fool's errand, but this somehow manages to execute that in the best way possible under the circumstances. As far as I remember, nothing important is cut, and the merged plot lines are ingenious, bordering on insane.
A very interesting read if you've already played the game and wanna see how they managed to fit all of that into 2 books. A very bad way to actually experience Tales of Berseria.
